Back 2 Cool

img_1405

Its August already it’s about time for the kids to go back to school. Have you started shopping for school supplies? Do you procrastinate and wait until the last minute? Are you already stocked up with the supplies and don’t have to go shopping? Well if your anything like me you have to go shopping. I have the bare minimum of supplies that my daughter will need for school.

Keep The Following Things In Mind

1. Have you looked at the supply list for your child? If you haven’t made sure, you look at the required list of items before going shopping. I know that most stores have a supply list there for you to pick up things off the list. Keep walking past that list and make sure you look on the school website and get the list from there to eliminate spending so much on unnecessary items.

img_1402

2. Make sure you look at what you already have handy and mark it off the list before going to the store. If you check off the items that you already have it will help you spend less out of pocket. You won’t be stuck with unnecessary things.

3. Plan your shopping trip write out a list and compare the prices at the different store. You can always use the Flipp app and type in the item, and it will show you where the object is on sale at and what the price of it is.

IMG_0735

Once you have looked at the supply list when through the supplies you already have and have written out your list, you are ready to go shopping.

Helpful Tip Before Going Shopping

1. Only purchase items on sales. If the object isn’t marked with a sale price, don’t purchase it.

2. Look for the lowest price at the store in your area by going to the Flipp app and typing in the name of the item and seeing what store it is on sale.

3. Name brand is not that critical look at cheaper items versus the name brand item. They all do the same thing but cost less.

img_1399-1

4. The dollar stores such as Family Dollar and Dollar General have smart coupons that you can use to lower your out of pocket on supplies. Check the app to see if there are other coupons you can use such as for tissues, Clorox or Lysol wipes, Hand Sanitizer or Zip-lock bags. Check the Dollar Tree for school supplies. The Dollar Tree has plenty of school supplies there that you can purchase. If need be, you can buy them in bulk if you need too.

5. Shop online with discount codes that can lower your out of pocket cost. Also you cash back apps such as Ebates or Ibotta when placing orders. Look for stores that offer free shipping on purchases.

6. If you plan on waiting until the last minute that is definitely a good idea. Last minute shoppers reap better benefits because the store will make the items down so low to get rid of them. When the Back to School items first started being advertised, they were higher, and they are gradually going down each week.

How to get Reduced price on EpiPen?

My daughter and I have horrible allergies. My daughter has a peanut and shellfish allergy and its gotten to be difficult for us to keep EpiPen handy. It’s difficult because she is involved in some many different things that she would need one with her at all times. I have always had allergies as a child but the older I have got the worst it has become. I recently found myself having an allergy test done. I had the allergy test done because I had a allergic reaction to something and could not figure out what it was. I found out I was allergic to some things that I come in contact with quite frequently.

After getting the results of the test, I realized that it is now imperative to keep my EpiPen with me at all times as well as for my daughter. I would typically leave it home for a reason such as it won’t fit in my purse, I’m not going to need it or just thinking of any reason not to carry it around with me.

If you or your kids have allergies, then you know that the cost is exceptionally high for EpiPen. Just knowing the price of the EpiPen, you can willingly forget to take one with you. But having to purchase one for my daughter now and myself my pockets are screaming for help. I know I have to buy it, but still, I’m just thinking like can the price be discounted or two for one since I have to buy for two people. But of course that’s not an option, its all or nothing at all. Looking at the box and realizing they expire in one year. What if we don’t use them? I’ll be wasting my money. Can I take them back and exchange them in a year? Those are all the things that came to my mind when I was given the price of the EpiPens.

Then to find out that my insurance only covers the generic and that was still over a $100. I ask the Pharmacist for the price for the brand. I compare the two of them and think that the prices are both to high. When the Pharmacist realize that its two people in my household needing the EpiPens he gives me this advice on how to get it for a reduced price up to $300 dollars off or possibly free. Of course, I’m all about saving money, so I listen to what he says.

Follow these steps for a discounted price to reduce your out of pocket cost for a EpiPen:

1. Go to the website and fill out the form. Make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.

2. Print your Co-Pay Offer Card from Mylan(the maker of EpiPen)

3. Verify that your prescription is written for EpiPen.

4. Take your prescription and your co-pay card to your pharmacy to receive your EpiPen two pack.

Hold on to your card you can use it up to six times in a year with a valid prescription.

Thanks to my Pharmacist I was advised of how to get the EpiPens for FREE!
YES, I Stated FREE EpiPens!!!

Who knew a Dollar could be so Sweet?

When was the last time you walked into Dollar Tree? I walked into Dollar Tree and was so shocked by all the items that they sell. They have currently expanded there store and added so much more to there shelves. Walking into a Dollar Tree and seeing a freezer with a variety of frozen foods, then seeing several shelves with food items from can goods, condiments, quick and easy meals, snacks, candy and so much more. They have name brand food items such as Kraft, Old El Paso, Oreos, Domino, and others.

As I walk the aisles in Dollar Tree, I receive a text message asking me to make a cake. Of course, I text back yes because I love to bake. I also ask when you need and what kind. I’m waiting to get a reply back, and it finally comes in I need it Friday if possible and how about trying that Lemon Blueberry Cake. I excitedly reply right back Friday is plenty of time even though its a day notice.

I had never made a Lemon Blueberry Cake, so this was something new to me. I’m always up for a challenge I then proceed to pull up the recipe. I look at the recipe I realize I don’t have all the ingredients at my house. I did not want to go to the grocery store so I look at the food section and I was able to find all the items I would need for the cake. I walk to the front of the store to get a basket and go back to the food section to start picking up the items I need. All ingredients for the cake can be purchased at Dollar Tree.

For my cake, I purchased the majority of the items at Dollar Tree some I did not buy there because I knew I did not have them at home. But all ingredients are at the Dollar Tree. Even if by chance the store doesn’t have an item other items can be substituted in its place.

How to Make Lemon Blueberry Cake

Ingredients

• 2 Eggs

• 1 Cup Granulated Sugar

• 1 Cup Sour Cream (8oz)

• 1/2 Cup Light Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil

• 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

• 1/4 Tsp Salt

• 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour

• 2 Tsp Baking Powder

• 1 Medium Lemon Zest and Juice, divided

• 1/2 Tbsp Cornstarch

• 16 Oz Fresh Blueberries **

• Powdered Sugar to dust the top optional

Instructions Prep:

1. Lightly butter a 9-inch Springform or Bundt pan and line the bottom with parchment. Preheat Oven to 375˚F.

How to Make Lemon Blueberry Cake:

1. Beat 2 eggs and 1 cup sugar with whisk attachment on high speed 5 min, or until light in color and thick.

2. Add 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup oil, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp salt and whisk on low speed until well combined.

3. Whisk together the 2 cups flour with 2 tsp baking powder then add to batter 1/3 at a time, whisking to incorporate with each addition (DO NOT OVERMIX). Finally, add 1 Tbsp lemon juice and 1/2 Tbsp zest.

4. Rinse blueberries and drain well. In a medium bowl, toss blueberries with 1/2 Tbsp corn starch and 1 tsp lemon juice, stirring until well combined and no dry white cornstarch remains.

5. Pour half of batter into prepared springform pan and spread evenly. Top with half of the blueberries. Spread with remaining batter then sprinkle the rest of the blueberries evenly over the top, pushing them slightly into the batter (about halfway). Bake at 375˚F for 45 to 55 min (mine was perfect at 55 min), or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cake rest in the pan 15-20 min then remove ring and cool until room temp or just warm. Serve dusted with powdered sugar.

Substitutes:
• 2 Tsp Baking Powder= 1/2 Tsp Baking Soda plus 1 C Buttermilk or Yogurt
• 1 Medium Lemon Zest and Juice, divided=2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
• 1/2 Tbsp Cornstarch= 1Tbsp All Purpose Flour

You can bake a cake from scratch out of items founded at the Dollar Tree. It is EASY and INEXPENSIVE!

Crafting Can Be Frugal

Are you into crafting? Do you like DIY projects?

If you answered yes to both questions you are in the right place. If crafting is in your blood and your funds are limited, your limited funds can go a long way at a craft store, Dollar Tree or <a href="http://crafts“>Amazon.

Crafting is still frugal if you know how to shop. Crafting can be a luxury of a person’s time and money. Walking into a craft store with the intends of buying one item and then leaving out with several different items adds up it can be quite expensive. Looking at DIY projects and getting ideas to make handmade items will add up in cost. If you are looking for cheap or free items don’t stop here keep reading.

Do you sew? Would like to get your fabric for cheap or even free?

IMG_1438

When you go to a craft stop you first start looking for the fabric and you are amazed by all the beautiful colors, textures and the patterns in front of you. You suddenly begin to look through all the rows and look at the walls to see which fabric to get. That’s an option but to spend less you would need to look again.

Step back and look again to save money you can get fabric from other sources. Other sources I know your thinking what other sources. Always check other sources first and then the clearance section. Other sources that you can use would be sheets, duvet covers, table clothes, curtains, and placemats. After the holidays and the season change always check to see what decors they have on clearance that you could possibly sew with even turn a Christmas tree skirt into a costume skirt for a princess. These items are always on clearance and most importantly they are already hemmed or have buttons on them that will allow you to work with them.

So, you don’t sew?

Your exactly right I don’t sew but I would like to make t-shirts with designs. I have made shirts with iron-on transfers and I have even tried to paint a shirt with a paper stencil. I want to purchase a Cricut or a Silhouette, but the cost is a bit pricey at this time, so I have been using an Exacto knife to cut out the designs for my t-shirts. I searched the internet and craft stores for a good price and have yet to find a good price.

Well, you would need to make sure that when you are looking at crafts stores you are checking for coupons and you are reading the fine print. Recently at Hobby Lobby, they had a 40% off coupon that came out and it had very little restrictions listed on the bottom of the coupon. With that coupon, you would be able to purchase a Silhouette for under $200 depending on what the price is in your store. If your local store may have it priced at $199.99 and then you would use the 40% off coupon which will then make it $119.99. Now that’s a deal.

With an in-store purchase, the Cricut nor the Silhouette comes with accessories or supplies unlike if you order them off <a href="http://crafts“>Amazon. The machine may be cheaper in store, but you would also need to factor in how much you will spend out of pocket on the supplies to get started to see if you will be spending more than the total machine cost to determine the better deal.

When purchasing your vinyl at a craft store always wait until they have a sale such as B1G1 50% or 25% off. You will come out cheaper purchasing vinyl off<a href="http://crafts“> Amazon. Also keep a eye out to when the supplies for the machine are on sale for 25%.

IMG_1434

Apps to Download to Get Deals:

Everyone should download the RetailMeNot app if you haven’t already. You can also download the app for each craft store. Use apps to save money while shopping in a store. Using the apps is the easiest way to save money at any time no having to remember to clip coupons and bring them in the store. You will only have to bring your phone to the store and present it to the cashier. I literally use this app on a daily basis to save money.

Can’t find what you are looking for always go to <a href="http://crafts“>Amazon

Amazon always has great deals, you can add items to your cart and then come back to them and place an order. If you have Prime you can get Free Two-Day Shipping on the items that show Prime eligible in your cart. For those of you that don’t have Prime, you can sign up here. If you don’t have Prime you will have to spend a minimum of $35 in order to receive free shipping. When placing your order for craft supplies you should make sure you stock up on them when they are on sale. I always purchase my ink cartridges, circuit blades, vinyl and transfer paper. I also buy items in bulk that I know I use on a regular basis and could never have enough of such as mason jars, hats, t-shirts, and cups. Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial
