Are you into crafting? Do you like DIY projects?
If you answered yes to both questions you are in the right place. If crafting is in your blood and your funds are limited, your limited funds can go a long way at a craft store, Dollar Tree or Amazon.
Crafting is still frugal if you know how to shop. Crafting can be a luxury of a person’s time and money. Walking into a craft store with the intends of buying one item and then leaving out with several different items adds up it can be quite expensive. Looking at DIY projects and getting ideas to make handmade items will add up in cost. If you are looking for cheap or free items don’t stop here keep reading.
Do you sew? Would like to get your fabric for cheap or even free?
When you go to a craft stop you first start looking for the fabric and you are amazed by all the beautiful colors, textures and the patterns in front of you. You suddenly begin to look through all the rows and look at the walls to see which fabric to get. That’s an option but to spend less you would need to look again.
Step back and look again to save money you can get fabric from other sources. Other sources I know your thinking what other sources. Always check other sources first and then the clearance section. Other sources that you can use would be sheets, duvet covers, table clothes, curtains, and placemats. After the holidays and the season change always check to see what decors they have on clearance that you could possibly sew with even turn a Christmas tree skirt into a costume skirt for a princess. These items are always on clearance and most importantly they are already hemmed or have buttons on them that will allow you to work with them.
So, you don’t sew?
Your exactly right I don’t sew but I would like to make t-shirts with designs. I have made shirts with iron-on transfers and I have even tried to paint a shirt with a paper stencil. I want to purchase a Cricut or a Silhouette, but the cost is a bit pricey at this time, so I have been using an Exacto knife to cut out the designs for my t-shirts. I searched the internet and craft stores for a good price and have yet to find a good price.
Well, you would need to make sure that when you are looking at crafts stores you are checking for coupons and you are reading the fine print. Recently at Hobby Lobby, they had a 40% off coupon that came out and it had very little restrictions listed on the bottom of the coupon. With that coupon, you would be able to purchase a Silhouette for under $200 depending on what the price is in your store. If your local store may have it priced at $199.99 and then you would use the 40% off coupon which will then make it $119.99. Now that’s a deal.
With an in-store purchase, the Cricut nor the Silhouette comes with accessories or supplies unlike if you order them off Amazon. The machine may be cheaper in store, but you would also need to factor in how much you will spend out of pocket on the supplies to get started to see if you will be spending more than the total machine cost to determine the better deal.
When purchasing your vinyl at a craft store always wait until they have a sale such as B1G1 50% or 25% off. You will come out cheaper purchasing vinyl off Amazon. Also keep a eye out to when the supplies for the machine are on sale for 25%.
Apps to Download to Get Deals:
Everyone should download the RetailMeNot app if you haven’t already. You can also download the app for each craft store. Use apps to save money while shopping in a store. Using the apps is the easiest way to save money at any time no having to remember to clip coupons and bring them in the store. You will only have to bring your phone to the store and present it to the cashier. I literally use this app on a daily basis to save money.
